Regional development as a way to increase national competitiveness
On November 27, Thursday, at 10am through 2pm the Foundation for Effective Governance is organizing an open discussion “Regional development as a way to increase national competitiveness”, at the conference hall of the National Academy for Public Administration, Office of the President of Ukraine.
This event will open a series of national discussions on regional policy development in Ukraine. Ukrainian and international representatives of national and regional authorities, businessmen, experts and mass media representatives will be among the participants. The event will be widely covered by the leading Ukrainian and international business media outlets.
The foundation has scheduled three subsequent discussion panels to provide in-depth elaboration of the regional development topic:
- Key obstacles of regions’ development
- Creation of business-friendly environment on a regional level
- Implementation of best world regional development practices in Ukraine
Among the discussants are: Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovy, Head of Donetsk Regional Council Anatoliy Blizniuk, Deputy Head of Kyiv State Administration Lyudmila Denisyuk, Minister of Regional Development and Construction of Ukraine Vasiliy Kuibida, President of the National Academy for Public Administration under the President of Ukraine Vira Nanivska, Chairman of the International Advisory Board of the Foundation for Effective Governmance, former Prime Minister of Canada Kim Campbell, Honorable Professor, University of California, Los Angeles, Director of Center for Globalization and Policy Research Allen Scott, President of the United States Conference of Mayors Paul Helmke, Executive Director SUMA Local Tax Authority in Alicante José López Garrido, Former Head of the Directorate General for Regional Policy of EU Graham Meadows and others.
The discussions on the regional policy are held within the framework of the Regional Economic Development Project, which is being implemented by the Foundation for Effective Governance in partnership with the Monitor Group, a well-known international consulting company, and in close cooperation with local authorities. The project goal is to come up with economic development strategies for Lviv city and Donetsk Region using the cluster-based approach. This might help create an economic model of regional development attractive for investors.
