The project for studying the competitiveness of Ukraine and its regions is implemented by the Foundation in partnership with the World Economic Forum (WEF) according to its methodology that underlies the WEF’s annual Global Competitiveness Report. The WEF has been analyzing Ukraine’s competitiveness since 1997. Since 2008, due to the Foundation’s support, Ukraine has received competitiveness rankings of individual regions along with its state-level ranking. In 2008, the project covered twelve of Ukraine’s regions and covered all of them in 2011.
In addition since November 2011 there has been launched Competitive Ukraine portal, a special internet resource providing original graphic presentation of the Report and full information about Ukraine's positions in the world rankings (http://competitiveukraine.org).
In course of the project the Foundation’s team analyzes key factors influencing national competitiveness: the development of political and other institutions, infrastructure, macroeconomics, public health and education, labor, goods, and capital markets efficiency; technological readiness, business sophistication and innovations.
The economic development monitoring presented in the Ukraine Competitiveness Report covers national and regional economies. The ranking helps to determine leaders among Ukrainian regions and cities and emphasize the competitive advantages and areas for development in every locality. As such, the information in the Report may help every region to identify its priorities for development and understand what should be done first to improve people’s lives.
The study of Ukraine’s competitiveness, as documented in the Foundation’s annual report, has no direct recommendations or conclusion about do’s and don’ts. It is an objective, well-structured information which represents a systemic and integrated approach to identify development priorities and is important for the government to make economic policy decisions.
The Foundation regularly delivers public presentations and holds open discussions of the competitiveness rankings of Ukraine and its regions and cities.
